Adam Unger

Who are you, and what do you do?

I’m Adam Unger. I’m the guy moving at a mile a minute, surrounding myself with people who can either keep or put up with it! Advertising by day, and sometimes by night (it is a busy industry)!

What is one habit of yours that helps you be productive?

A routine. When in doubt, it is the one thing you can fall back on. Wake up on time, leave on time, eat on time. Rinse and repeat. Structuring a day around a routine keeps me on track.

What is your morning routine and how does it help you get the most out of your day?

My morning is about getting to work as soon as possible (weekends are another story of course – all about waking up ‘organically’). Lately, I’ve been sleeping in as much as I can, working and preparing the night before for the day ahead. Meaning, when I wake up it is go time!

In the last few years, what lifestyle, habit or behavior change has had the biggest positive impact on your life?

I get better daily but managing time effectively. Time is the most valuable resource. Managing time looks differently from person to person. Priorities differ. The fun comes in choosing your priorities and allocating time accordingly.

When you feel unfocused, what do you do?

Call a mentor who is known to give a good kick in the butt. I can recommend a few if you are in need.

What is one piece of software or a web service that you get immense value out of? How do you use it?

I love angel.co. 90% of my job requires searching for companies who might benefit from what my company offers. This site catalogs new and interesting companies on the rise. I also love startups and entrepreneurs and this site is full of amazing opportunities in that world.

What is the one book you recommend most often and why?

Blue Ocean Strategy. I love the idea of making competition irrelevant. Screw the competition.

What advice would you give a smart and ambitious recent college graduate? What advice should they ignore?

Don’t hold back. Go all in, 100% in anything and everything you do. Ignore anyone who tells you differently.

What is your favorite quote, one you aim to live by?

“Beware the quiet man. For while others speak, he watched. And while others act, he plans. And when they finally rest…he strikes.” – Anonymous

It was a recent find from the movie Vice, and I like because it feels a little out of reach for me. It is something I aspire to be – more calculated, thoughtful, and less reactionary.
