John Velk

Who are you, and what do you do?

John R. Velk. Attorney.

What is one habit of yours that helps you be productive?

Get up early, show up ready to work, then work hard all day.

What is your morning routine and how does it help you get the most out of your day?

Make coffee, make a protein shake, catch up on emails. Then shower and go!

In the last few years, what lifestyle, habit or behavior change has had the biggest positive impact on your life?

Eating better and losing some weight. Way more energy.

When you feel unfocused, what do you do?

Get away from social media and the phone. Isolate on the task at hand.

What is one piece of software or a web service that you get immense value out of? How do you use it?

AVVO. It is easy to edit and check for client contacts. It is powerful advertising and can’t be faked because all client and attorney reviews are posted whether you like it or not.

What is the one book you recommend most often and why?

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It foretells of the harm that too much reliance on government and others can cause individually and to society.

What advice would you give a smart and ambitious recent college graduate? What advice should they ignore?

Take negative advice with a grain of salt. Don’t let it stop your plans if you have created a good one for you. If you are committed, bright and ambitious often you will surpass what others lacking those characteristics could achieve.

What is your favorite quote, one you aim to live by?

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

-Ben Franklin
