Who are you, and what do you do?

I am the youngest of 11 out 11 children who was raised on the streets of Walkerville and in the alleys of Butte. I was a proud member of the “free range” generation. After dinner, school or sports, I came home once the Kelly Mine shift change horn blast went off at 8pm.

Graduated from Butte Central and Western Montana College and worked in various occupations as a cashew peanut peddler, bar tender/bouncer, felon counselor. An insurance claim representative, and, now an independent insurance agent with State Farm for a total of 31years.

I am father of two daughters, one in Heaven, Mariah, one works with me, Jenna, in my Leo McCarthy State Farm Agency and have been married to a living saint for 32 years!
I help individuals, families and business to recover from the unexpected by auto, home, life insurance and financial services.

What is one habit of yours that helps you be productive?

Staying ripe on the education vine. Reading and immersing myself in the works of the Stoics. Also, CrossFit keeps me humble in exercising. Have a written down set of values, personally and business is a useful roadmap.

What is your morning routine and how does it help you get the most out of your day?

I win the day. Get up, at 5:30am, floss, brush my teeth, drink 20 ounces of water short work out and have a power hour(s). I read, sometimes meditate and get ready for the day.

In the last few years, what lifestyle, habit or behavior change has had the biggest positive impact on your life?

Diet and a more of a restrictive CrossFit regiment. Being more mindful of what is around me and to believe that everything can change but not your outlook.

When you feel unfocused, what do you do?

Sit back breath and use some stoic sayings.

What is one piece of software or a web service that you get immense value out of? How do you use it?

I use my business software through contract bases. Microsoft and Sales Force. Mobile phone and iPad are used daily. Similar use for home related functions.

What is the one book you recommend most often and why?

Ego is the Enemy, Ryan Holiday. Daily Stoic.

What advice would you give a smart and ambitious recent college graduate? What advice should they ignore?

Your desires will be be a guide and a detour. Once you get what you want, will it change you or make you a better humble and kind soul. Be ambitious, be productive, be aware and grateful. We have a top heavy world of successful people whose shoe sole has stepped on many souls without caring. Make this place better than it was before you leave it.

What is your favorite quote, one you aim to live by?

Summum Bonum. Just that you do the right thing, the rest doesn’t matter.
