Who are you, and what do you do?
I am Shelby Mavis, I work as the Major Gifts Officer at America’s Kids Belong. There are hundreds of thousands of kids in the foster care system without homes and we get them in families, where they belong.
What is one habit of yours that helps you be productive?
I believe keeping a routine is key to being productive. I work from home so I need to make my own schedule.
What is your morning routine and how does it help you get the most out of your day?
I wake up early so I have time to have a morning before starting work. I make my bed, make coffee, read my Bible, journal, work out, shower and get ready. I like to organize my day by what is important. First, Jesus, reflect, do something healthy, then I am able to work hard.
In the last few years, what lifestyle, habit or behavior change has had the biggest positive impact on your life?
The biggest positive change is getting up early!
When you feel unfocused, what do you do?
I like to get up, move around and change where I am working. Especially because I work from home, switching up my scenery is important.
What is one piece of software or a web service that you get immense value out of? How do you use it?
Google Drive helps me keep all my files organized.
What is the one book you recommend most often and why?
Wild at Heart for men and Captivating for women. It is so important for us to be confident and strong in our identity and understand who we are in Christ.
What advice would you give a smart and ambitious recent college graduate? What advice should they ignore?
Every graduate going into the workforce should go in knowing that everyone starts off faking it. “Fake it until you make it” is so real!
Ignore when people say that college are the best years of your life. Life is all about choices, choose for it to be the best.
What is your favorite quote, one you aim to live by?
A life not lived for others is not a life. Mother Teresa.
